Drum Major Tips

Do not come to rehearsal without something to do just in case everything goes to shambles and the groups need to relearn drill.

Be confident and if you don’t feel confident, act like yuo re. This will give the band a feeling of security that you will lead them through any mess ups and that they can do what they need to do.

Acquaint yourself with all of the band members. this makes a stronger bond among the members.

Be positive, you are the leader in the way that counts most. If you and the band are in a show and everything goes wrong, they look to you to help fix it.

Be Loud!!! The band must be able to hear you.

About Me

I am a proud member of the Cambridge High School Bulldog Marching Band from Cambridge, Idaho. My school’s program has always been talked about because of the way we did our shows. Last year was our final year because of complications at the school and within the band itself but I still love marching band so I want to tell people about it.

First Rehearsal

The First Rehearsal is the most important. This is when the band members, flag line, and drum core meet for the first time. You need to choose a leader for each section of each group. One for each instrument on the field and one for each section of the drums. You only need one flag line leader. The one in charge should be a first part player with experience in a band. The ones with the most experience will be deemed leaders but remember that if one of them shows that they cannot be trusted they can be demoted and someone else put in their place. The sections should all separate into different groups and rehearse the parts they have.
